Community Involvement
NEAT Program Volunteer- Hardin Valley Elementary School: August 2013-present
As a site leader for the Nutrition Education Activity Training program, I taught weekly lessons to grades K-5 on topics such as healthy eating habits, the five food groups, and the importance of physical activity. Each lesson included an interactive game pertaining to the topic discussed. This is a great opportunity for community outreach, and I very much enjoyed teaching the kids every week.
South Haven Community Day: July 2007-12
My family's church organizes a Community Day every summer as a means of outreach and connecting with the community. As a volunteer for this event, I was involved in setting up, managing food services, and coordinating games.
Angel Food Ministries: June 2007-10
This was another program organized by my family's church. We took monthly food orders from low-income families who, on the last Saturday of every month, would come to the church for pick-up. As a volunteer, my duties included unloading the food truck, organizing food in the pick-up area, helping the recipients assemble their food boxes, and taking/organizing order for the next month.
